Yitro
R. Nachman of Breslov on Parashat Yitro, read on Shabbat Yitro · The giving of Torah — with one of this week's three questions for the two of you.
Yitro contains the most thunderous moment in the Torah: Sinai. The mountain shakes, the shofar sounds, God speaks the Ten Commandments to a people standing below. We tend to think of Sinai as a one-time event — the moment Torah was given, sealed, finished. Rebbe Nachman heard it differently. Sinai was not finished. Sinai is happening right now, in every soul that opens to receive. The Torah is being given again every morning. Marriage is the same: the love we received from each other on the day we married is being given again every day, freshly. The work is to be the kind of soul that can receive what is being offered now — not just remember what was given then.
What is something one of us received this past week — a small Torah, a teaching, an insight — that we have not yet shared with the other?
