Ki Teitzei

R. Nachman of Breslov on Parashat Ki Teitzei, read on Shabbat Ki Teitzei · Elul — with one of this week's three questions for the two of you.

R. Nachman of Breslov
רבי נחמן מברסלב
Likutei Moharan · on return from any place

Ki Teitzei is famously the parsha with more mitzvot than any other — seventy-four of them, most about the small grain of daily life: gathering crops, returning a lost object, tying tzitzit, the laws of marriage and divorce. The teaching beneath the surface is unmistakable: holiness lives in the granular, not only in the grand. Rebbe Nachman, perhaps more than any other voice in our tradition, took this to its furthest implication. There is no place too low for return. There is no soul too far gone. There is no day so unredeemable that the next day cannot be its repair. If you believe you can break, believe you can fix. In the middle of Elul — the season when we count our distance from where we should be — Nachman's promise is the only one worth holding onto: the path back is always open.

One of this week's three questions

Where in your own life right now do you feel furthest from where you wanted to be? (You don't have to fix it — just let me know it's there.)

The full week — the passage itself with its source, the other two questions, and the closing verse of hope — lives in the app. Together Tomorrow on the App Store.
