Toldot
R. Nachman of Breslov on Parashat Toldot, read on Shabbat Toldot — with one of this week's three questions for the two of you.
Toldot is the parsha of Yaakov and Esav — twin brothers in one womb who become two opposite paths. The verse says they were already wrestling inside Rivkah, before they were even born. Two destinies struggling for one space. Rebbe Nachman returns again and again to a hard truth that this parsha makes vivid: each soul has its own path. Your path is not your brother's. Your path is not your spouse's. Two people who love each other deeply do not, cannot, walk identical roads — that would dishonor the way each was made. The work of marriage is not to walk the same path. It is to honor the path each of us is on, and to walk near each other, even when the two paths are not the same.
What is one part of your path that is genuinely yours — not mine, not ours, but specifically and rightly yours — that I could honor more attentively?
